BROWNS FACTS:

 

Entering 2008, all-purpose back Eric Mecalf (1989-1994) still ranked among the Browns Career Top 10 in rushing (10th), receiving (8th), kickoff-return  yards (3rd) and punt-return yards (3rd.).

 

The Browns thrashed the defending Super Bowl Champion New York Giants 35-14 at Cleveland browns Stadium on a Monday night in week 6 of the 2008 season.
 

The first Pro Bowl in its modern format was held following the 1950 season.  The Browns' Otto Graham was the player of the game that year as the American Conference beat the National Conference 28 - 27.

 

Brian Sipe passed for 23,713 yards and 154 touchdowns for the Browns from 1974 to 1983.  Both of those marks still stand as club records!

 

The great Jim Brown was named the outstanding back in the Pro Bowl three times in his nine-season NFL career (1957-1965).

 

Frank Ryan set a club record (since tied) when he passed for 5 touchdowns in a 52-20 rout of the Giants that sent the Browns to the NFL Title game in 1964.  Two weeks later, he had 2 scoring tosses as Cleveland beat Baltimore 27-0 for the Title!

 

In 2007, tackle Joe Thomas became just the fourth rookie offensive lineman ever to earn a berth in the AFC-NFC Pro Bowl.

 

Milt Plum is the highest-rated passer in Browns' history.  He compiled a rating of 89.9 from 1957 to 1961.

 

In a 32-25 loss to San Diego in 2006, Phil Dawson became the first player in Brown's history to kick 6 field goals in a game.

 

Twenty-four years before the Dolphins forged the NFL's lone perfect season, the Browns had a perfect season in the AAFC.  They went 14-0, then drubbed the Buffalo Bills 49-7 in the League Title game!

 

The Browns outscored the Bengals 35-31 in the second half of their 58-48 loss in 2004.  That was the highest-scoring second half in a game in NFL history!

 

Speedy wide receiver Ray Renfro averaged 19.2 yards on his 281 catches from 1952 to 1963.

 

The 2007 Browns featured a pair of 1,000 yard pass catchers:  wide receiver Braylon Edwards (1,289 yards) and tight end Kellen Winslow (1,106 yards.)

 

Kicker Phil Dawson entered 2008 with a career accuracy rate of 82.7 % on field-goal tries (182 of 220).  That ranked fourth among qualifiers in NFL history.
