TOP DAWG
by Bud Genovese

December, 1999

Many of our BABB members, have consistently been saying, in these exact words, plus or minus a few cuss words, that Coach Palmer:

    Is not up to the task;
     That his game plan plain sucks; and,
     That Palmer is over his head!

Browns fans are not patient and want instant results, just like Intel missing income projections for one quarter sends the stock temporarily down, the current Browns win record is driving the negatively bent fans crazy: the want Palmers head, Dwight Clarks or anyone that moves in the front office. Maybe we are justified to be short-term oriented and the "greatest fans in pro football" deserve more, and now.

But are they right?

I say a Big NO!

Talent wins games, coaches facilitate the way, but without scoring players Vince Lombardi is a losing coach. Forget the first year "honeymoon". That part I agree with most Browns fans, the Browns should be more competitive this year. Palmer needs more fire. The players seem to be in a daze in most games, lacking the drive to win, except for a few.

Wali Rainer and Kevin Johnson to name a few come to play hard every week. I am not sure about our high paid offensive line. Either our O-line need a year to "jell" or these guys are just overpaid 300 lb lame lard asses (just kidding guys)!

Tim Couch is this issues "TOP DAWG" as those that have seen him play know he is out to win every play. Not afraid to get hit and just needs another speed receiver to go with Kevin Johnson, so that KJ is not double teamed every down. Chivarini is a great possession receiver, but another speed merchant a must to pair with Johnson. Perhaps Wisconsin runner Ron Dayne is not the answer, and fashion-conscience burner WR from Florida State Warrick is the one to select next draft.
