2001 BROWNS: WHY WE WILL BE
BETTER The Browns will be much improved this season, but how many games can you win when you play two of THE best teams in the entire NFL four times? Baltimore and Tennessee are two of the very best and elite teams in the NFL. How does Las Vegas rates the AFC Central teams? The "Venetian - Las Vegas" has posted these odds to win the SUPER BOWL: BALTIMORE 4-1 Two AFC Central rivals are the top favorites, along with the Rams, to win the Super Bowl, so what chance does the new Browns have to win more than 3 games again this year? Great chance! The betting world does not factor in much change. The Browns will be better in all areas and here is why: QB - Tim Couch will be back with more targets and time to throw. OL - With the additions of offensive linemen Ross Verba, Tony Jones and Tre Johnson the Browns should have a decent line to block for Tim and open some holes for our RB's. RB - Rookie James Jackson from Miami University (FL) is THE key to a very improved running game. He has the confidence - can he back it up? Erric Rhett and Travis Prentice (Miami U - OH) are good back up runners. If Jackson flops, the Browns will be drafting a RB #1 in 2002. WR - Kevin Johnson and JuJuan Dawson should start with Rookie WR Quincy Morgan from Kansas State as the third wideout and fastest on the team. Quincy - another rookie - maybe THE key to improving this part of the offense. Morgan has the speed and ability to become perhaps the #1 WR for the Browns. Last years Dennis Northcutt has a ton to prove. He also could surprise. But keep your eyes on Morgan and Dawson if the Browns have any chance of improving the passing game. Defense - Last but best! The Browns WILL have a better defense. Period. Top defensive rated player at any position in this past draft - Defensive Tackle Gerard Warren - teamed up with Courtney Brown at end and you have one great defensive line. Especially now that Brown will not be double teamed. Returning to the line is left defensive tackle Orpheus Roye and the fast Keith McKenzie at the other end. The Browns then acquired the Vikings top rated LB - Dwayne Rudd to solidify the LB group. You heard it here: The Browns will be "in" ALL the games in 2001. No more wrong way blow outs. They should double last years win production and be a team to grow with an enjoy! Get ready for an interesting season starting with the preseason August 11. It will be very interesting to watch these rookies, new additions and new Coach Davis: plan to see some games this season. What do you think about the Browns 2001 chances ? E-mail me your thoughts!
