TRAVIS
PRENTICE - FIRST TOP DAWG OF THE SEASON
The Good News The Rookie RB from the Miami Redhawk's proved in hot Arizona that he is the real thing. Travis Prentice is the first Top Dawg of the 2000 season. Number 41 has shows Kevin Mack-like power and some speed to match. That's the good news. The bad news for Browns fans is that our receivers may not even make an Arena football team. So before you blame Chris Palmer and his coaching for a lack of imagination, or being too conservative, look at the lack of talent in the scoring positions (I hate the term skill positions). Kevin Johnson has gone from a potential pro-bowler to a non-event on the field. Tim Couch is in a MAJOR funk from the Oakland game and is afraid to throw deep, and has lost some zip. In defense of Tim and KJ, they need help. Travis is a fine power runner but does not have the speed to tun the corners and break out down field. Kevin Johnson has no viable partner. Patten is OK and Northcutt coming on. But the loss of JuJaun Dawson and dropped passes by Chaverini seem to have taken their toll on the passing game. Another major challenge is that we have no tight end. Not one that would scare any team in the NFL. So what's good? The defense is much better, both the line and secondary. Except that our linebackers still are one or two away from a solid team Jamir Miller looks to be over-rated and too slow. So back to the "offense" - Couch (and Palmer) need more weapons. The Rams Curt Warner would look like Couch's Dad if he did not have the weapons he has in St.Louis. Warner has three speed receivers and Marshall Faulk, who has the speed to set out as a WR or turn the corner and break up field for 80 yards without breaking a sweat. Browns fans need to view the second-year expansion team in a realistic light. Maybe it would be good to start to look forward to one more high draft pick - like a speed runner to complement Travis's power. Support the club and see you at a Bay Area viewing location - it has been fun even with these hard losses Go
